Getting to Know Kay Kay
Q: Tell us something that we wouldn’t know by looking at you.
KK: I am the last of 7 children. I have six wonderful siblings, 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Q: Favorite Quote?
KK: "Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.” joseph campbell
Q: First thing you do in the morning is…
KK: Say some gratitude, it's helpful to remember all I have to be grateful for especially the mornings I don't want to get up. It helps to motivate me.
Q: Last thing you do before going to bed…
KK: Same as when I get up... remember all I have to be grateful for.
Q: Worst job you’ve ever had?
KK: The most interesting job I had in my life was as the switchboard operator at the old Boston Garden. It was before there were ever automated systems to answer calls and I would have to patch each person through to the specific extension. An art long forgotten.
Q: Best piece of health advice given to you?
KK: "Early to bed early to rise helps keep a woman healthy wealthy and wise." - My 99 year old Grandmother
Q: Who inspires you?
KK: My Mother is my inspiration. She is my Guru. She is completely unstoppable. After raising 7 children she went back to work at the Boston Garden and played an instrumental part of the development of Premium Seating. She worked her way up to Vice President and was an important part of Boston Sports over her 30 years there. She is still an incredible athlete and an active golfer. She is a constant inspiration and role model.
Q: Favorite VROU flavor?
KK: Pineapple/Mint... The ultimate combo.
Q: Favorite time of day to drink VROU?
KK: I love it all the time but as a mid-day refresher is my favorite!
Q: Why VROU?
KK: Besides it's so delicious? Many reasons... it's natural, it's filled with essential nutrients that I cannot get from just drinking water and the company aligns with my vision of teaching and empowering women the benefits of living a healthy lifestyle.
About Kay Kay:
In 1996, Kay Kay Clivio came to yoga to rehab an injury she sustained as a competitive outrigger canoe paddler in Hawaii. During the course of her recovery she not only regained agility and healed, but cultivated a practice, discovered a passion, and, later — a vocation. At VROU, we love Kay Kay because of her dedication to passing along the ancient practice as a key to maintaining Women’s health.
Keenly aware that traditions are not inherited but learned, Kay Kay spent the next seventeen years devotedly deepening her understanding of yoga. As part of this effort, she traveled to far reaches of the world and studied with luminous teachers including Bikram, Ana Forrest, Baron Baptiste, John Friend and Shri K. Pattabhi Jois in India.
The teachings of yoga have transformed my life,” says Kay Kay, “and I want to share them in a very heartfelt way with each individual student. “
Now settled in New York City after stints in Hawaii, Boston, and Hong Kong, Kay Kay is a senior teacher at Pure Yoga NYC and the head of Pure’s Teacher Training Program. Recognized by many, including New York Magazine, as one of the best instructors in New York, Kay Kay’s classes are a beautiful manifestation of an ongoing dialogue with past teachers and present students. Her instruction is pertinent and meticulous and her classes are fresh, fun, and challenging. Kay Kay is deeply aligned with the vision of VROU to uplift and revitalize Women’s health.
